Running down the Runway i started to watch the Karate Kid. I saw some Trailers but don’t Know if it is Suppose to Be a new version of the cool Movies with Mr mijagi. I am about to find out if it is good in covering the old, being a new Version of it just another Remake.
Story: the Story is very Close to the First Karate Kid Movie. A Boy moves to a different Place , this Time China, and gets into Trouble with some kungfu boys. Of cause He also meets a Sweet Girl. After almost Beaten up again, mr mijagi – oh it is Not His Name this Time – and saves him. In the next half Hour or more the Boy Learns kungfu with almost the same style As in the old One. Here it is good that they only copied the style and Not also the actions. He does Not have to clean the Car or polish the floor but Hang up, take down, throw down and pick up his jacked all Day Long. All this is for preparing for the Fight competion at the end of the movie.
Now it is time to rate the Movie. So Let’s Start with the downs: sadly there are some flaws in the plot. The Mother does Not Know about the competition in the beginning and Never really gets told. It would Not Be a Problem but her Charakter would struggle to let the Boy Fight. So, i was the whole Time waiting for argument about it. Secondly, the father of the girl disaproves about their friendship, but allows her to go to the fight. He joins her and cheers for the boy. But from some point on, i is not seen any more and never heard again. Why this flaw in the movie? I also would rather have liked the Story to be in the way that the father is not cheering and only from the point in the tournament, where the my is badly hurt and is not giving up, he starts to lighten up and shows respect. That would more fit.
Also, the Movie rushes too much on many Occasion and shows often too much of the training. I dont remember the old Movie having this Problem. There i Never felt an unbalance.
The good part is that the Move really is Not only a bad remake it is Not the fith Part either. It Takes the First Part 1:1 and Transfers it into todays Time. Placing the Setting into china is Great. It makes it unique and Somehow realistic. Also, the sidestories are believable and fit well. This is Why it is so upsetting to what the Movie could have bin with only a Little more Time given to the sidestory to make the characters more beleavable – cut 2 minutes of preparation Time ( Training lessons) and use them plus 3 more minutes for the characters. The Movie than also could have shown a tiny glimps of chinese life.
The Movie is really good enough for collectors of the other Kid movies. Go Watch it. It is Not for people other than that.
