Expectations before watching:
As I so often do, I watched this movie without knowing too much about it. I knew it was a comedy and supposed to be quite good. Still, since the recommendation were from an unverified source, I do not know if I can count on it.
Comments:
The movie starts out to be a fairly simple plot: A average employee, Aaron (Jonah Hill), of a record company has to pick up his all time favorite music star from London and bring him to a concert in America. I think it is not at all a problem for a comedy to have such a simple plot. In the end, it is all about entertainment. The movie starts out to introduce the relationship of Aaron and his girlfriend. They have some trouble due to their different working times. They break up and the journey begins. Of cause the rock star uses drugs plenty and Aaron gets drawn into it. Pushed by him, he also has a few encounters with women.
The whole comedy is not too much for laughing. Do not understand me wrong, it is a great movie and also a great comedy. Different to most other comedies this one is not filled with stupid jokes and laughing about the embarrassment of others. Yes, we have some of the usual plot parts of comedies but the movie never let me down. Moreover, besides all the fun stuff that happens the movie has also parts in which more serious ideas and situations happen.

Disclaimer:
Movie ratings are controversial because numbers, stars or percent do not really tell much about the quality of a movie. It is even worse if the reader does not know the rating person, his or her preferences or expectations when watching it. Hence, I do not really like a rating with numbers. Nevertheless, the style of rating movies and handing out points or stars is in the end the most easiest way to mark a movie and tell others about what to expect of a movie. Not to fight over the different marking systems, I decided to use the five star system of movielens, which classifies the stars into 1 star for Awful, 2 for Fairly Bad, 3 for It\’s OK, 4 for Will Enjoy and 5 stars for Must See. Still, I recommend everyone not to rely on pure numbers (stars) but to read the comments to make a decision. Additionally, I try to include a expectation section to make the pre-condition clear, which lead to a certain rating. Last, I will add additional comments, dates and ratings if I watch a movie multiple times to track and show how my taste or view of the movie is changing.
