I hate Apple and their crappy Hardware / Software.
Last week I ran into the following problem and took me hours of research, tears and annoyence before I finally – probably – found the solution. But let me explain what happend so maybe some others of you out there find fast help. I was already almost as far of buying a new iPhone. “Why again?” you might ask… Well, this is just born out of no time to find a new one.
But now to the story:
Last week I was updateing my Phone to the software version 3.1.3. With this there came the new iTunes version 9.x. Later these days I wonderes why my phone was not connection to wifi any more – not at home and not at work. I tried a lot of things:
- Forget the access point
- Reset the network settings
- and some other weird things.
Later I found out that I can still connect to unencrypted networks but not to WPA networks. That was very strange.
During my search for a solution nothing really helped and so I heavy hearded reseted my phone. Guess what happened: nothing! It still did not work before restoring the backup and not after doing that. I tried this over and over again in the wildest combinations.
My last try was to downgrade to 3.1.2 and hope that the problem was caused by this. Ha… I was not.
But I encountered another problem after the first reset which was making me very angry: All my apps weren’t there any more and since I did not have wifi and not 3G flat-rate, I tryed to install them through iTunes. And again you can guess what happened: nothing!
Well, that is not entirely true, because it was even worse. The Error said that I need to activate my computer. But it was already activated and deactivating and aktivating did not help at all!
So what to do besides almost throwing the device out of the window?
I don’t remember how I was getting to the page which linked to the solution but I want to share it with you.
What I had to do was starting iTunes as Administrator and activate the computer as Administrator.
Thoughts: I think what happend was the following…
I updated to Windows 7 around christmas time. After that everything worked fine. But since I was always loading the apps trough the iPhone itself I can’t tell everything for sure. Later after upgrading iTunes and the iPhone – others need to figure out which software was released first – the wifi did not work any more. All apps were still working.
After resetting the whole iPhone iTunes did not recognized the apps any more (because the computer was magically not activated any more – even though it said different).
For me the question which is still open and not understandable: Why is Apple cripling the wifi with encryption? And why does iTunes does not tell in a dialog that since you are not an Administrator you can’t activate the computer.
It leaves me with much headache and a lot of lost time. Too bad Apple… I hate you!
I have to write a comment to this topic:
Apple.
That’s all
I agree! But can you name other products wich have:
* decent Exchange connection (Mail, Contacts, Calendar)
* Audio + video capabilities.
* Browser
* bigger screen
The first poin is the most important!
